Yeah, and see, this gets more complicated because there's a sizable population in Malaysia that's of Chinese descent -- but whose families immigrated as far back as the 14th century, because the peninsula is such a convenient place to do trade with India and the various Indonesian islands. So you have Malaysians but are culturally (and in substantial part ethnically) Chinese, but a branch of Chinese culture that missed out on all the post-1420 developments in the Celestial Kingdom, and that has been taking in considerable Malay influence since then.
