Well, now, Ice-IX requires greater pressure than you'll get in commercial airlines; it's a very frustrating form to deal with. (There are allomeres of ice, ice crystals with different structures, though Vonnegut's bears no resemblance to the real thing.)
I don't think a sardine would be a very practical travelling form, much though Economy class may suggest it. It would be convenient to shrink a little, though.
