Hiking poles help a lot.. And not those expensive flimsy things they sell. I mean long, free sticks, slightly taller than you are. Get two of those and use your arms to hold some of your weight. Works out the arms and really saves your knees and ankles. (I get realloy long ones because otherwise I'd stab myself in the face or something.)
