Used to be the standard, really, when every ride and booth was its own concession, and even when you started to see parks all run by a single manager. The pay-one-price model came about in reaction to Disneyland and took over in the 60s-70s. As with all things there's good and bad. The bad is it means you can't just drop into the park and enjoy the atmosphere and maybe buy their cheese fries, the way you're free to do at, like, Knoebels or Waldameer or most places on the Jersey Shore. The good is that once you're in there's no reason to not take another ride, or to ride something you're not sure you'll like; it won't cost you anything but the queue time.
