Thing I'm sincerely wondering is if there's some weird underground structure thing where the old bridge chucks balance out some part of the bedding underneath the train tracks, and they need to have a replacement system in place before taking them out. I can't imagine how that would be exactly, but stuff can be weirdly arranged there. Thing that keeps the Coal Tower from being torn down is that apparently its footers go so deep into the ground that there's no taking it out without shutting the railroad down for a couple weeks and that's not worth it until the structure gets ready to collapse.
