I finally bought six new glasses, to replace the three smashed almost simultaneously a little while ago. My obsessive-compulsive mind figured I should buy exactly the same style glass I got nearly two years ago; they didn't have them anymore but I did spend hours searching. So rather than just by three new glasses of a different style I got six. They're that style hotel buffet breakfast places use for orange juice -- kind of thick wineglass shapes with decorated stems; I thought they looked interesting and would be not too bad to clean. They cost about S$25.00, what my first six cost; I remember thinking back then that was a slightly worrisomely much money. But that was also in my first paycheck when I had to buy all the stuff to set up an apartment with half a month's pay (and that to last me six weeks, because I got it as an advance on my first pay).

And at Kentucky Fried Chicken (I like the Zinger meals) the guy cleaning off tables and taking away trays (you're not expected to clean your tray at fast food places) had a good, five-minute chat with me. I don't know what he said; I think he was speaking Malay. He pointed at the radio speakers where some station contest had listeners singing tuneless pop; and he pointed to me, held his hand out as if he had a microphone and sung a bit. I don't know what was going on, but I nodded and smiled and tried to agree and he seemed satisfied. I hope I'm not in trouble.

Trivia: Astronaut Jim McDivitt wanted to name the Gemini IV spacecraft ``American Eagle.'' Source: Deke!, Deke Slayton and Michael Cassutt.

Currently Reading: Unto Zeor, Forever, Jacqueline Lichtenberg. It's actually a nice life-in-residency, race-barrier-breaking novel if you don't try to pretend this is set in the far future, up to the last third where it tries to use its science fictional premise and I couldn't follow it anymore.
