The question [livejournal.com profile] rcoony raised and that I'm honestly curious about: do I really have more absurd little things happen to me than most people do, or am I simply more vocal about it when I see something funny? For example, I don't think anything really funny encountered me today, apart from the complete disappearance of my favorite toothpaste from every single store in the nearby shopping mall. And one convenience store did have a nice set of four ceramic Peanuts figurines -- Charlie Brown, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Snoopy -- in Chinese dress, but I already bought that a few weeks ago. And, well, my alarm clock froze overnight -- weak battery; it's a travel alarm clock and actually, you know, has dials that rotate and stuff -- but I woke up pretty close to the set time anyway. I'm still figuring out that one.

Focusing again, how long does it take for everyone else to find five silly things around them? I imagine it takes me at least a full day.

I think you live a life in a big city, and on a college campus, which makes for a high acesss to absurdity. With my location, work schedule, and such, I'm dependent upon work to provide me with the goofiness for 4, 5 days of the week; and I have to provide my own there (such as handing out Dr. Pepper jellybeans, a few apiece, to all my co-workers after finding them in the store.).

For five silly things around me (i.e., not online), I think it takes me a good week.

Come to think of it, I suppose I also have the advantage that Singapore has been for centuries a place where Polynesian, Indian, and Chinese cultures come together (the Malay peninsula has long been a trading center), with Western culture just another wave splashing against it. So there's a history of the sort of free-form mixing of cultural influences producing eccentricities like the Tiger Balm Gardens.

Exercise and health.

It's a valuable exercise to be able to spot those goofy things; five a day sounds like an excellent number. I spot them all the time without really realizing it, though it does seem that yours are just a little more surreal than most folks'. I do believe that maing note of these curiosities is an excellent health aid; it's far too easy for some folks like myself to get bogged down in the cynical and awry, and realizing that some of it is actually just silly, funny, or purely bizarre is a good way to keep the blood pressure down.

Yay for your biological clock. They did tests on folks and found if they were told to get up at a certin time, they actually did. Well, for normal folks. (I tend to oversleep alot)

Spoke too soon Today I slept right through my alarm and through most of the morning. Fortunately I didn't have anywhere to particularly be before 4 p.m. (I love academia), but it still annoys me when I do that. What can I say, Spindizzy's been so much fun lately...

Working in a hospital, I can't post a lot of the more absurd stuff that I see because of patient privacy laws.

At least I can talk about stupid people who make asses of themselves at the zoo when it happens. :-)
