I was going to follow up on the question of whether the Internet is better at narrowing experiences or expanding them, but I don't have much new material to say about it. I'll instead post my absurdly imbalanced CD collection. It divides pretty well into three categories:

Miscellaneous

  1. Due South: The Original Television Soundtrack
  2. My Son, The Greatest: THe Best of Allan Sherman
  3. Shootin' the Agate: Music of Jelly Roll Morton by the Jim Cullum Jazz Band
  4. Space Ghost's Musical Bar-B-Que
  5. The Who's Tommy

Peanuts

  1. Masters of Classical Music Volume 3: Beethoven
  2. Happy Anniversary, Charlie Brown
  3. Vince Guaraldi: The Charlie Brown Sweet and Other Favorites
  4. Vince Guaraldi Trio: A Charlie Brown Christmas
  5. Wynton Marsalis: Joe Cool's Blues

The Beatles

  1. Abbey Road
  2. A Hard Day's Night
  3. Magical Mystery Tour
  4. Please Please Me
  5. Revolver
  6. Sgt. Peppers' Lonely Hearts Club Band
  7. The White Album

Whatever one concludes about my personality from that is probably correct. Also on the list should be ``Something like this...'': the Bob Newhart Anthology.

I had no idea you were such a Beatles fan. You have GOT to get "Rubber Soul." It's like proto-Revolver.

The Beatles were my first fanboy obsession, really, near as I can figure out. At least I can't remember a time I wasn't fascinated with them. I think they just edge out The Pink Panther and Popeye that way.

The thing is ... I do have Rubber Soul. Or at least I did. I don't see how a person with an 18-CD collection can lose one, now, and I'm going to have to go sulking all over the apartment until I make sense of this.

I didn't get into the Beatles until late high school, but then I was certainly obsessive about it. (The two things I can think of that have been lifelong interests, for me, are Popeye and carousels. What is it with Popeye?) I'd still have to rank the Beatles as my favorite band, but the funny thing is that I hardly listen to them anymore. I don't know if I wore them out through years of almost exclusive listening, or what. My current musical obsession is the Kinks, a band that I can't believe it took me this long to discover I liked.

I own upwards of 400 CDs, myself; I won't even try to list 'em. However, none of the CDs you own are in my collection.'

However, I do have A Charlie Brown Christmas on mp3, downloaded from EMusic.com; and Space Ghosts' Musical Bar-B-Que on mp3, which Everguest burned me a copy of.
