Trivia: In 1937 Britain supplied 47% of Yugoslavia's wool imports (raw and wool), 41% of its woolen manufactures, 41% of its cotton tissues, 31% of its cotton (raw and yarn), and 55% of its coke. In trade Britain imported mostly agricultural products. Source: A Low Dishonest Decade: The Great Powers, Eastern Europe, and the Economic Origins of World War II, 1930 - 1941, Paul N Hehn.

I suppose taking time to warn the passengers might be less desirable than taking the time to crash less crashingly, so there would be value in not requiring the pilot to take their hands off the controls to make an announcement.
