You'd say I'm putting you on

Today as often happens I received a copy of a faculty bimonthly newsletter. Only I noticed it was the January-February issue. A typo? Did they forget to change the date? Not apparently; articles referred to events from November, and included a deadline two months passed for the March-April issue. Now I wonder if they've been sending me the January-February issue over and over until somebody asks about it.

And at a convenience store I noticed the clerks had T-shirts with the store name and big advertisements for some sort of eyelash product. Finally the curiosity drove me wild, and I asked the Watson's cashier, ``When the promotion is done, do you get to keep those T-shirts, or do you have to return them to the store?''

She pointed out a big stand of eyelash products and explained it was for that promotion. ``Well, yes, but when the promotion is over, do you get to keep the shirts?''

She thought for a moment, then said, ``I'm sorry, I don't know.''

I sense she's lying, but why would she lie about T-shirts?
