An uncreative subject line to reflect income taxes, but an inevitable one, this year at least. Because --- please have your extremely tiny violins available --- the sudden leap in my income this year over every previous year was accompanied by a sudden leap in our tax bill. Which is fine. We're basically content with the concept of funding the government and while we want less federal support for the white supremacy and all, we can't yet separate that from the good parts.

What's not fine is that my withholding was nowhere near enough to cover this. I don't know how it happened, and we spent a fair while trying to figure out if we were missing something obvious, especially as we were still due a refund from the state. But a quick check with, like, quick tax calculators that don't bother trying to cover deductions and all says we were in about the right neighborhood so ... ?

We could cover the shortfall since, again, see the second sentence of this finance report. But I did e-mail my supervisor over at the contractor that technically pays my wages, to ask how to get my withholding up to something near right. They haven't answered yet. (This may reflect that I put my question in in response to a question they asked, and it's very hard to get someone to notice there are two topics in one e-mail.) I'll give them a couple days and try again.

I just can't figure how we had my withholding so wrong in the first place. I guess that's a lesson for next time I get a much better-paying job.

Now let's get to a much bunny-paying prospect, that of hanging around the Calhoun County Fair last August:

Californian rabbit giving instructions to their minions.

And the bunnies swing into action, loafing in parallel!

This guinea pig, meanwhile, carries on, unsure that they were supposed to be invited to this meeting.

Another guinea pig wonders if they were supposed to be part of this meeting because they're pretty sure they weren't but you don't really know for sure?

Once again, I feel like I'm being filed for a world of hurt from this Californian.

And here's one of those bunnies from that Original Star Trek episode with the planet of people who're black on one side and white on the other.

Trivia: In 1925 Rutgers University instituted a set fee to support student activities, ending the old system in which every student organization had to raise all its own funds. Source: Rutgers: A Bicentennial History, Richard P McCormick. Which may seem very small an example, but it's representative of a trend across schools in the expanding years of a century ago.

PS: What's Going On In Mary Worth? Was the last three months *all* praising Mary Worth? January - April 2024 and yes, it's a day early, but it also features a shout-out to my dad.
