I took a desperately-needed break from book-writing to go downtown and try to catch some of the Buskers Festival. According to the papers there are 22 international acts joining ``the biggest busker's festival in southeast Asia.'' Well, I'm as up for unicyclists who serve teh tarik from the tops of their ride, or for contortionists squeezing into 43 cm-tall lucite boxes as anyone is. The theme this year was ``Street Fun,'' I suppose as opposed to the private, reserved fun ordinarily seen from street performers.

What I found, though, was a lot of people passing out flyers advertising the festival, and occasionally crowds gathered around something or other, which always turned out to be ordinary Orchard Road Spruced Up For Christmas attractions, like animated mannequin angels. If there were any specific street festivities I missed it. But according to the flyers plenty was going on at Changi airport.

If I had more time I might have gone down there -- Changi's actually a nice enough place to visit and on the MRT it's just as accessible as Bedok or Pasir Ris -- but, well, see above comments. I'm getting more hopeful that I'll have a draft finished by the end of this week. A few sections are still badly inadequate, but there's nothing which is completely inadequate anymore.
