First weekend after Christmas is when we usually try to find a Christmas tree. Once again we went to the Tannenbaum Farms, barely any distance away. We meant to get there early so as to forestall [personal profile] bunnyhugger's parents buying the first precut tree they saw, but we were merely on time. But we were able to head off their buying something they'd be disappointed with right away; [personal profile] bunnyhugger's mother was already not terribly happy with the handful they had in the precut lot.

We went out together to the Frasier fir lots, where they hoped to get their lone tree and we hoped to get our upstairs tree. They found theirs first. I was glad to cut it, using the saw we got for just this sort of thing a couple years ago. Our saw's really good at this: I had the tree cut down in roughly a quarter-second, before [personal profile] bunnyhugger could even finish asking me to tell her when she should hold the trunk.

We found an adorable little tree for our own bedroom nearby, and [personal profile] bunnyhugger cut that down. She needed more than a quarter-second, but not all that much more. These are adorable trees and really easy to get.

After we had those bundled up, we ... couldn't remember for sure which tree was theirs and which was ours. We reasoned that our tree was smaller than her parents', and put that one in my car so that we couldn't be confused later on. It turns out we probably could have fit both of our trees in my Prius; it's got a nice lot of space for wood-based products. More on this to come.

[personal profile] bunnyhugger and I went back, looking for a concolor for our downstairs tree. We've had that a couple years and found it a really well-behaved tree. Apparently everyone else has come to like these trees too. There were barely any remaining tagged. While there's sections of the concolors that should be available starting next year, it looks like we might have to switch to something else.

[personal profile] bunnyhugger's parents had warned us they wouldn't be able to visit us for the afternoon. But they changed their mind on the spot, and were happy to spend a couple hours hanging out, talking, enjoying the fire. Wondering why Sunshine wouldn't come hang out by them. That sort of thing. It all felt very good, quite healing.

Oh, you'd like a couple more snaps of Sunshine. Promise.

So she ripped open the bag we keep some hay in, and decided she'd love to sneak her hay out of there.

This is the exact same hay we give her in her hay minder, inside her pen, mind. She just enjoys it better feeling like she's getting away with something.

So if she isn't sitting under the coffee table, vibing, she's poking her head into this bag, eating out a hay cave around her. I'm sorry the solid three-dimensionality of her work doesn't come through in pictures, but she does some good excavating work.

Trivia: Egyptian Cotton was introduced to Egypt in 1821, hybridized from Jumel cotten and from Sea Island cotton. Sea Island cotton had been grown in South Carolina since 1786. That had come from the Bahamas, and was a variant in the Caribbean genetically traceable to Peru and Chile.
