Over on the humor blog you get to see me Reviewing _Popeye and Son_, Episode 1: Happy Anniversary, completion of my most quixotic project since the last bunch of Popeye cartoons I reviewed! Meanwhile over here, you get to see the night advancing on Kennywood's operating day and --- almost --- catching up with KennyKon. For example:

SAM_9817.jpeg

Peering out from the Merry-Go-Round at, well, Jack[-]Rabbit. I'm not sure why the ground looks wet over there; there's some water traces around to the left of this picture too.

We couldn't resist looking at the Kangaroo by night, especially with all those color-shifting LEDs.

SAM_9819.jpeg

And here's what the lights look like in-between cycles, with the word Kangaroo and all the six kangaroos turned off. Cycles of what, you ask?

SAM_9821.jpeg

Just that! Switching the kangaroos off and on so they seem to be bouncing, and lighting up and color-shifting letters.

SAM_9828.jpeg

And here's Jack[-]Rabbit's stylish new arch, and the turnaround after its lift hill (which is at the middle of the ride) by night. I too am surprised the arch doesn't seem to have its own lighting but it's not like the ambient lighting is inadequate.

SAM_9829.jpeg

Back to the Merry-Go-Round for a last visit of the night. I tried doing a tracking shot on the lion and what do you know, it worked.

SAM_9837.jpeg

[personal profile] bunnyhugger riding the lion!

You can see the band organ on the left there, along with where the drum's been hit very many times. Also an historical plaque, an illegible-in-the-photos plaque, and a warning about using horse hooves as step or foot rest (you're suposed to not). Also half a selfie! That's me in the cargo shorts, of course.

SAM_9841.jpeg

Ah, and now we step back to get a picture of the carousel and just admire how lovely it is, sparkling bright and white in the dark night, just this precious, lasting jewel of ---

SAM_9842.jpeg

Oh. We didn't think they were going to turn the lights out so fast; it's barely after 10 pm and we thought they'd hold it open a while to provide for riders as they stream out of the park.

SAM_9844.jpeg

One of the new Kennywood arrows signs, pointing out the various attractions, pointing to attractions like Kiddieland, Spinvasion, and Restrooms.

SAM_9845.jpeg

And now we're walking past the Parkside Cafe, where we'd gotten a lunch if I remember right, and pretty deep into the park actually, so what are we doing here after the park has closed and it's turning out the lights? Watch this space ...

Trivia: When the League of Nations addressed calendar reform in 1937 the World Calendar Association persuaded Chile to formally present its case for a twelve-month 31/30/30-day calendar, with a ``Worldsday'' holiday not belonging to any week or month between December 30th and January 1st, and a similar intercalary leap day between June 30th and July 1.
