Some stray threads of my life and the lives of those around me: my mother got the second half of her eye surgery done, so she is extremely happy that she no longer needs glasses for anything if you rule out the case of sunglasses against excessive sunlight. And better, she had the surgery done in the week before Christmas. The reason this is good is that the brain takes time to adjust to what the eye with its new ... I guess it's a new lens, I'm not really positive because when they start talking eye surgery I start squirming ... and the result is that bright point sources of light get surrounded by halos. These halos start out really large, and they shrink in time. This is a very bad thing if you need to drive at night, but if you have a husband and/or a loving son who can take care of that, then is there really a better time to have a visual effect causing point sources of light to explode into halos two or three times the size of the full moon than the week of Christmas?

Well, better, optically, would be a light ice storm, particularly one that frosted this bunch of trees down at a pharmacy that nobody any of us knows has ever seen anyone in the parking lot of ever. However, they're trees with a lot of well-positioned, thin branches, and they're almost directly underneath a street light, so it's not hard to imagine how stunning it must look like when ice-covered and lit.

And remember the set of golf clubs I got as a gift for offering but not actually providing help to a guy who's spending his retirement taking drivers license exams? I haven't actually used them, but my father took them with him to a weekend trip to North Carolina where they got in some fishing and took the chance to play golf, since his set is ancient and this gifted set looked really good. It turns out the gifted set is also a left-handed set of clubs. No one in our family, including the cats, is left-handed.

Trivia: On 5 January 1914 Ford Motor Company treasurer James Couzens announced the minimum wage for men at Ford plants would rise from $2.34 per day to $5.00 per day. The two to three hundred women in the electrical department and the others in the office would earn less. Source: Henry and Edsel: The Creation of the Ford Empire, Ricahrd Bak.

Glad to hear your Mom's surgery has been successful!

Well. If you don't know how to golf, I suppose learning left-handed won;t be too much of a challenge over learning righty.

Thank you. She's just a touch bored now in waiting for the halos around her eyes to die down so she can go back to driving at night.

I have golfed at least pitch-and-putt with reasonable success, but that was ages ago. I don't think there's anything I do left-handed, though, so it's hard figuring out where to start.

Oh, I've trained myself to do most things at work with reasonable facility left-handed, just in case something happens to my right hand. I golf righty, though, inasmuch as saying 'I golf' would normally imply 'I've done it since 1997'.

Oh, yes, you'd be in a particularly sore spot if you weren't able to use your right hand a while and the left weren't trained. Me, I'd just be typing at normal speeds instead of my comfortable pace, so it's a bit less urgent.
