A touch more east from the NBA Experience Store my father and I went past Trump Tower, which wouldn't have drawn any interest from me except my father wanted a picture of him in front of it doing a ``you're fired'' gesture. I think. I don't care for The Apprentice because of its reality show component and its Donald Trump component, though based on the commercials I'll also not care for Celebrity Apprentice for its Andrew Dice Clay component. I was worried about wearing out my camera batteries with starting it up and shutting it down too much, particularly in the cold (it's a Singaporean camera) but that turned out to not be a problem.

We started walking up what would be the east side of Central Park, which my admittedly vague memory map of Manhattan suggested was the wrong side to get to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but my father was sure he knew where he was going and he is the person who can identify every intersection between Virginia and New Hampshire while I remember about four street names, and three of them are Interstates.

Had I mentioned that it was a cold and a very windy day? Because it was both and it wasn't making any attempts to warm up. It was the sort of day that makes it feel reasonable to consider setting your clothes on fire. As we kept walking and found no signs of museums anywhere soon we did notice the Apple Store Manhattan, that subterranean center with the glass cube top, and thought that might be a great way station.

It wasn't a successful trip in terms of finding software I wanted to buy more than I wanted to carry it around all day, though they had an interesting-looking game where you run little cake shop and a sequel where you run some small-town restaurants until, I'm trust, Gordon Ramsey comes in and yells at you for not running different restaurants entirely. And I was able to show using the store's iPods just how to use my mother's iPod, which apparently she's never refused to let him use, but which she hasn't explained to and has kept instructions away from him. And my father regarded it as a great stopping point as they have a (clean) bathroom.

OK, why am I only now hearing about Alexander Graham Bell's part in the birth of aviation? What is wrong with you world that you aren't telling me things like this which I would find interesting?

When I was in Manhattan with my brother's apartment-mate, she insisted on going into that Apple Store on the grounds that it always has the cleanest bathrooms around.

That wouldn't surprise me. It'd be a relatively easy thing to have decreed from on high and people always like places which have free, clean bathrooms. (I'd expect some of the public museums to be pretty good on that measure, although you might be pressured to make a donation for the privilege; more reason to visit Manhattan on Tuesdays.)
