I've come into the possession of a pair of jeans. I mean a pair of pairs of jeans. I mean, there's two distinct jeans, each of which is considered a pair. You know what I mean. If you don't there's no point carrying on here.

What I'm getting to is that I didn't buy them since my basic objection to jeans is pretty well-known around here: they're not as comfortable as the many other kinds of pant-based clothing products out there. And while allegedly they will become comfortable with sufficient wear, I don't get the point of wearing something uncomfortable in the hopes of getting it to be as comfortable as something that already is comfortable from the moment of purchase. I realize there are great things not immediately appreciated, but I don't think pants belong on the list.

But since I didn't buy them, where did they come from? And the answer there is my other brother, the one up in New England with the surprise child on the way. He's found that with the regular and well-paid job he's got now he can't quite fit into his old clothes so he thought perhaps I might make use of them instead. Good logic. He also thought I'd get a kick out of being the undisputed skinny one of the family, and he's even more right there.

The only thing is I'd left them in the living room for a couple days and now I don't know where they've gone. They ought to be somewhere.

I strongly approve of you having jeans! They are probably the most comfortable kinds of pants that one can wear and still look fairly presentable, you know.

I feel that way too, although I've had people vehemently argue that slacks are more comfortable. I'm willing to allow that may be true, but I think it depends on finding slacks that fit, which for me is tougher than finding jeans that fit.

Personally, I've become a big fan of Filson's "antique tin cloth pants" lately. They're a cotton weave that's a bit softer than jeans, so they feel broken in almost immediately, but they hold up well. Also, I can order them hemmed to length, which is a huge convenience for me.

I have found slacks to be pretty comfortable, at least among the clothing genres that require belts. [livejournal.com profile] bunny_hugger's pair feels really good, and was that much warmer in the long winter at that.

Those are nice, but will be too heavy for summer wear. Clearly I need to do some more shopping for you.

I think you may just be underestimating how comfortable I am blasting the air conditioner on my legs.

Perhaps, but you need to go outside sometimes, and besides, it looks nicer to wear clothes for the season.

I think you'd be surprised how much can be fashionable if you're oblivious.

I personally find denim more comfortable than any other pants-based clothing, myself. I'm not alone in this, except in the house in which I live. K true to form wears beige khakis solely for pants, and when they pass the stage of exterior use they become 'flop around at home pants'.

My pants, once they pass the stage of exterior use, become trash. And I don't think I'm overly persnickety, here.

Also, I've not bought a new pair of jeans in about three years. Goodwill manages to provide at least a pair every time I search for one.

When mine pass the stage of exterior use, they become "working on the car" clothes.

I have occasionally kept a shirt of pair of jeans in the past for 'yardwork clothes' or such.

Then I realized I owned 100+ t-shirts, and that was just too many to bother keeping ones in poor shape.

Yeah, I don't bother to keep tee shirts either, for the same reason. Jeans, though, I tend to keep just a bare minimum of, because they're expensive and hard to find in my size.

Do try Goodwill. I find something there constantly, for highly reasonable ($5-$8 usually) prices.

Eh, I have an odd size, so that's likely to be an exercise in frustration. Also, I knew someone who got a case of the crabs from a pair of secondhand-store pants. ;)

And me, I started at one odd size and dropped to the extreme other end of oddness, with about twelve minutes in the middle where I could find stuff on the racks that was actually suitable. I do better with shirts.

Now, I have taken to instituting a hard line about throwing away socks which develop holes. It's had not uniformly positive side effects.

Oh, socks with holes larger than the diameter of a pencil are immediately disposed of. Otherwise I'll.. notice and it won;t be right all day. :P

I can make do with socks with holes, and even put up with it through yoga. But I don't like it and at some point I realized I had no obligation to keep around socks I didn't like.

I haven't actually had any pass the ``can't be worn'' stage in years now, but since my size has stabilized there'll have to be the chance for it again.
