I have some more pictures of the Bug Carousel.

Here I went to the popular 'vertical' orientation for the camera and got a better look at the carousel, floor to ceiling.
I was far too optimistic about the shutter speed when the carousel was in motion. Like most modern carousels it's not excessively fast, but then my camera isn't either.
I didn't really get the sunniness and gloss of the carousel in these pictures, but I like to think if I went back and fiddled with my more elaborate knowledge of camera settings I might be able to do better.
More vertical shots and how the carousel looks when it's in motion.

Trivia: A 1907 reconstruction of Robert Fulton's original Steamboat found the original vehicle was too unseaworthy for the centennial celebration's purposes, and the design had to be changed. Currently Reading: Legacy Of Glory: The Bonaparte Kingdom of Spain 1803 - 1813, Michael Glover. I'd been reading this while eating, and an elderly couple apologized to me, as they left, for their conversation possibly distracting me. (It hadn't.) They said they'd let me get back to my studying. I started to say I wasn't studying, but then reflected, why was I reading a dusty, 40-year-old book about Napoleon's attempt to get Spain to accept his brother as their monarch and how it went all wrong? That's the sort of thing that will distract you for the rest of the McRib.

That carousel is pretty original, but I'd not want to ride on bugs. Is it themed for Bluth's "Thumbelina?"

My Fujifilm camerahas a host of never-used settings, all very 'professional' and so unnecessary. I miss the simplicity of my old Canon SLR film camera.

Carousel Works puts bugs on their carousels sometimes, though this is the only all-bug carousel they have done. I suspect that their bug designs were first developed for this carousel and then reused on later ones, but I don't know that for sure. I don't think this is themed for anything besides bugs: it's something striking and unique for the Zoo to brag about.

The Binda Conservation Carousel at Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek, Michigan, has some bugs on it. (That carousel is not one of the theme carousels they've made, but a generic one that incorporates lots of models that were probably first developed for other carousels.)

I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be an obvious site talking about how the Bug Carousel came to be built. The most I can find is mention that the Wildlife Conservation Society had the idea, and with the Bronx Zoo one of its flagship zoos, that was a good spot for it. I'd have expected either the Bronx Zoo or Carousel Works to have at least a page talking about its origins and inspirations.

Aw, bugs serve so many useful roles, and they don't feel all that different from normal animals in carousel form. They just have weirder saddles is all.

Mostly I need a camera that can handle weird light conditions, since it's clear I don't want to take any pictures in nice simple bright lightly-overcast days outside.
